What is municipal and planning law?

Municipal Law is a specialized area of law and deals with matters that include:

  • The Structure and Powers Of Municipalities

  • Elections

  • Council and Council Members

  • Bylaws

  • Taxation

  • Claims against Municipalities

Planning Law largely concerns land development. Land development in turn involves such areas as:

  • Land Use Bylaws

  • Development and Development Permits

  • Subdivision

  • Appeals

  • Judicial Review

 

Services. Caron & Partners offers a broad range of services in the area of municipal law and planning. These services include:
  • advising municipalities generally concerning matters of municipal law and planning;
  • drafting bylaws
  • bylaw enforcement
  • the drafting of agreements and other documents that are specific to planning such as development agreements and servicing agreements
  • assisting and advising SDABs regarding proper administrative procedure and regarding substantive issues of planning law
  • assisting and representing clients appearing before municipal and administrative tribunals

  • assisting clients in applying for and obtaining land use amendments, subdivision approvals, development permits and other approvals and permits incidental to land development
